Toy Mountain

This Year marks the 28th anniversary of the CTV Toy Mountain Campaign, which supports The Salvation Army and their quest to provide help and hope to families struggling to make ends meet. Every year, we invite businesses, schools, organizations, community groups and our Downtown Markham community to become partners to collect toys – and to help build Toy Mountain.

On Friday December 15th, CTV and Toy Mountain will broadcast live from the Pride of Canada Carousel at 8080 Birchmount Road in Downtown Markham. The event will run from 5 to 8 p.m. and will be broadcast live on CTV News at Six between 6 and 7 p.m.

Markham Fire Department will be on hand as well as The Salvation Army Band. We will be serving up hot chocolate and delicious treats for everyone who will join and want to partake in the event, drop off donations and take a spin on the Carousel!

The York Region Food Charter is getting a revamp and we need your help! It has been ten years since the launch of the York Region Food Charter, and a lot has changed in our regional food system. The Food Charter is a guiding document for the development of coordinated food-related policies and programs in York Region with a current focus on health and well-being, economic opportunities, environmental sustainability, education and skills, and equity and social justice.

The York Region Food Charter is under review and we want to hear from you! Join the York Region Food Council on November 30th at 6:30pm for an interactive evening where you can let your voice be heard. A light dinner will be provided. All are welcome!

Basic Life Support(BLS) Provider (Mackenzie Health Staff & Volunteers Only)

This four-hour course is designed to provide basic response to medical emergencies including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automatic external defibrillator (AED) use and choking.

Cancellation/Withdrawal: Requests should be sent to professionalpractice.education@mackenziehealth.ca
and will be accepted without penalty 14 days prior to your scheduled course date. No refund will be issued after this time.

A minimum number of three participants is required to run a Heart and Stroke Foundation certification course. Mackenzie Health reserves the right to cancel the courses should any circumstance beyond the control of Mackenzie Health occurs including, but not limited to, the minimum class size is not met.

Additional Information: Participants must agree to respect the equipment, manikins, facilities and employees of Mackenzie Health.

You will be practicing skills that require you to work on your hands and knees, and the course requires bending, standing, and lifting. If you have any physical conditions that might prevent you from engaging in these activities, please tell an instructor. The instructor may be able to adjust the equipment if you have back, knee, or hip problems.

Food and beverage will not be included.

Participants are responsible to pay for any parking fees that may incur over the period of the course.

Resources: All participants are responsible for obtaining the required reading materials prior to attending the course and allow adequate time for review. BLS Provider Manuals can be borrowed from the Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital – Vaughan Library location as well as from the Professional Practice office at the Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital site in B-wing room 4927 during regular business hours. Course material is not included in the fee. Course material can be purchased through the Heart and Stroke Resuscitation Portal (select the “Shop” tab). Breathe Here Now at Float Valley

Breathe Here Now is a unique breathwork experience that invites inner explorers into the ever sacred present moment. This powerful journey into the self is activated through the 3-stage active breath and blended with evocative music and sacred sounds.

This powerful experience can immediately shift you into a state of well-being and ecstasy while enhancing clarity, creativity, and problem-solving ability not available in the ordinary waking state. During this journey, you’ll be fully supported to cultivate a deeper relationship with yourself and let go of old patterns, beliefs, and fears blocking your highest expression.

After 25-30 minutes of active breathing, you will be led through a guided visualization designed for you to see, feel, and attract what you want in your life, as well as receive messages from your higher self. Katie’s intention in every journey she guides is to create a safe and powerful space for breathers to experience more of themselves on a deeper level.

Financial Empowerment program by Women’s Centre of York Region is a financial literacy program held once a week for 5 weeks. During the program, we cover topics such as budgeting, credit report and scores, financial planning and more. The program helps women get control of their finances and achieve financial independence. Upon completion of the program, participants are provided with grocery assistance in the form of gift cards.
