Orange Shirt Day

September 30, 2021

On September 30 Canada will recognize two events of significance, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

Reconciliation is a commitment to creating respectful relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. It is an opportunity to identify meaningful ways to move forward together. Leading up to and on September 30 you are encouraged to reflect, learn about and honour the survivors, their families and communities about the true history and legacy of residential schools in Canada.

You are encouraged to wear orange on September 30 in recognition of the harm residential schools had on the generations of Indigenous children’s sense of self-esteem and well-being and as an affirmation of our continued commitment to ensure that everyone around us matters.
