SUMMARY:State of Pride: Documentary Screening
DESCRIPTION:The month of June marks Pride Month\, a time to celebrate the diversity of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community! This month is also a time to reflect on the origins of Pride\, and how it was born is resistance to oppression and violence against queer\, trans\, gay\, lesbian\, and bisexual individuals and communities. Join us for a screening of “State of Pride” to learn about the history of Pride\, where Pride is today\, and hear from diverse community members on lived experience as well as the importance of intersectionality in Pride. Participants will be sent takeaway and worksheets after the screening. \n*Please note\, while we are a Canadian agency\, this film discusses Pride in the United States. \nCONTENT WARNING: This film includes images and discussions around harmful anti-2SLGBTQIA+ rhetoric and demonstrations. \nAbout the film: \nFifty years after the Stonewall uprising\, Oscar®-winning filmmakers Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman and host Raymond Braun travel to three diverse communities – Salt Lake City\, San Francisco\, and Tuscaloosa\, Alabama – for an unflinching look at LGBTQ Pride\, from the perspective of a younger generation for whom it still has personal urgency. \n
